Scranton council sets budget hearing for April 29

The Scranton city council will hold a special meeting on Monday, April 29, on the proposed budget for 2024/25. The meeting will begin at 6 pm in City Hall.

The budget has a tax rate of $16.03964 per $1,000 on taxable property in the city. The ag land rate is $3.00375 per thousand. 

Total revenues are estimated at $737,547 with expenditures estimated at $1,004,236 showing a deficit of $266,689. 

At the council’s April 11 meeting, a discussion was held on the pricing of city-owned lots. A price of $1,500 was set.

A building permit for Conner Groves was brought to the council for consideration. She proposes to build a privacy fence at a cost of more than $5,000. The council approved the permit. 

Dustin Gibson reported the Community Center has obtained a quote to fix a heater coil and to replace the roof.

At the March 12 meeting, Dawn Rudolph reported the basketball tournaments and practices were keeping the gym busy. Pickleball is going well. The gym roof has developed a leak and the committee is looking into a Grow Greene County grant to replace the roof before there is any further damage. A fundraiser is also under consideration to help with the cost. 

The zoning committee advised that an application for solar panels on the ground was reviewed. They agreed to waive section 2.42.1 but requested a fence be erected. The council agreed. ~courtesy of The Scranton Journal
